20 And he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him. 21 For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, 22 coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. 23 All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”
Have you ever heard the statement “God knows my heart.” It’s often said in reference to why they should be allowed into heaven. They believe that they are sincere enough and have done enough good and if God would only look at their heart He would know just how good they were. The truth of the matter that God knowing our heart is a bad thing. Our heart is where evil resides. Many want to give blame to Satan, or temptations, or the world, but our main problem, our main enemy is ourselves and our own heart. This is why we need a savior; not because we are good and need to be better, but because we are evil in need of God’s righteousness that is provided to us through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
