24 “But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, 25 and the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.26 And then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. 27 And then he will send out the angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven.
For most people the idea of the sun and moon going dark, the stars falling from the sky, and the heavens being shaken would conjure thoughts of terror – and it should for Revelation 19 makes it clear that Christ is returning in judgment. But notice the ray of hope in the darkness. As Christ returns he will send out his angels to gather his elect. This is a promise we can receive with comfort that when that day comes it will not be a day of terror for those who trust in Christ, but a day of salvation when we will abide with him forever. He will gather his own to a place of comfort, joy and satisfaction as we dwell in his presence forever. So then let us remember the words of Paul to Titus that we are “waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of our great God Savior Jesus Christ…”
