37 And Jesus uttered a loud cry and breathed his last. 38 And the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.
This was the final moment of Jesus’ crucifixion when he gave up his last breath and in that moment not far from where his lifeless body hung on the cross the curtain that separated the holy place from the holy of holies was torn in two. The holy of holies was where the high priest would enter once a year to splash the blood of a goat on the Ark to atone for the sins of the people. Through Jesus’ atoning sacrifice he opened the way for us to enter into the presence of God where we can with confidence approach the throne of grace where we can receive mercy and find grace in time of need (Heb. 4:16).
