Devotional – Mark 16

And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and they were alarmed. And he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him.

Muslims travel to Medina in Saudi Arabia to visit the tomb of Muhammad. Buddhists travel to Bihar in India to visit the place where Gautama Buddha is said to have achieved enlightenment. Those who follow the teaching of Confucius travel to Qufu, China where Confucius lived, taught and died. Those who are seeking Jesus, like the women who went to his tomb, won’t find him there – He has risen. Our faith is founded on the belief that Jesus rose from the dead. In fact, Paul says that if the resurrection did not happen then our faith is futile and we are still in our sins. He goes on to say that if our hope in Christ is only for this world than we of all people are most to be pitied (I Cor. 15). My friends, our only hope for this life and the next is in a resurrected Christ who is now sitting at the right hand of the Father on our behalf – interceding for us and being our advocate. Hope in Him!
