9 And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. 10 And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, 11 and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”
Just before Jesus ascended into heaven he told his disciples that they would be empowered by the Holy Spirit to be his witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the end of the earth. So between the ascension of Jesus and his return that church has been given one thing to do, one mission, one vision, one responsibility – to be witnesses of the Lord Jesus Christ, to proclaim the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ, to proclaim “that Christ died for our sins accordance to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised from the dead on the third day in accordance to the Scriptures (I Cor. 15:3, 4). This is the only hope for us and the world as we await for our Lord and Savior to return and establish his Kingdom forever.
