16 In past generations he allowed all the nations to walk in their own ways. 17 Yet he did not leave himself without witness, for he did good by giving you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and gladness.”
Every generation that came after Adam and Eve were born dead in trespasses and sins deserving the wrath and condemnation of God, but notice from this passage God allowed generation after generation to continue in their ways away from Him. Yet, even in their sin and rebellion God showed to them grace and mercy by giving them rain, food and gladness. This is often referred to God’s common grace. It is the grace God gives to the just and the unjust. He does this so that some might come to the saving knowledge of his grace. This how you too got saved. God first revealed to you his goodness and grace through the mercy he showed you until such time you came to understand the fullness of God’s grace revealed in the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Oh how gracious is our God.
