Devotional – Mark 5

As he was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed with demons begged him that he might be with him. And he did not permit him but said to him, “Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” And he went away and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him, and everyone marveled. (Mark 5:18-20)

In these passages we seen two evidences of true faith. The first is a desire to follow Jesus. Just as the man freed from his demons wanted to be with Jesus so those who have been freed from their sins and rescued from the wrath of God desire to and long to look to their savior. The second is a passion to proclaim the gospel. Jesus tells this man to go and tell others about the mercy that God had shown him. In the same way our message is not about life transformation, but about God’s grace and mercy. Our desire should be like this man one of longing and passion because of what Jesus has done for us through his death and resurrection.
